Peekaboo Pumpkin Pound Cake

Thank you SheKnows!

Peekaboo pumpkin pound cake with brown butter pecan icing

For the pound cake
  • 1 (14-ounce) box pumpkin bread mix
  • 1 (16-ounce) box pound cake mix
  • Orange food coloring
For the icing
  • 8 tablespoons (1 stick) butter
  • 3-1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Prepare pumpkin bread

Mix up pumpkin bread ingredients according to the directions on the box. Add orange food coloring to make it more "pumpkin-y" looking (less brown).
Step 1

Bake and cut

Bake in a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan according to directions. Remove from oven before completely done, about 8-10 minutes less than instructed. Let cool, remove from pan and refrigerate for up to four hours. Cut cold pumpkin bread into large slices. Cut pumpkin shapes from slices.
Step 2
Align them down the center of a lightly greased and floured 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
Step 3

Make pound cake

Mix up your pound cake batter according to the directions on the box. Pour over your pumpkin bread cutouts in the pan, making sure to cover the tops of the pumpkins. You may have more pound cake batter than you need. Try not to overfill the pan. Bake according to the directions on the box. Let cool when done.
Step 4

Prepare icing

Meanwhile, prepare the brown butter pecan icing.
Put powdered sugar in a mixing bowl. In a saucepan, melt butter and boil, stirring until it starts to brown and form dark flecks on the sides and bottom.
Step 5
Remove from heat. Pour the melted brown butter and flecks over the powdered sugar. Add the evaporated milk and vanilla. Stir until combined and creamy. Add more powdered sugar if it appears too runny or more evaporated milk if it seems too stiff.
Step 7

Ice cake

Remove baked and cooled pound cake from pan and top with brown butter icing. Add chopped pecans, if desired.
Cut into slices and delight your guests with the pumpkin-shaped surprise that peeks out from inside!

Wax Roses Review and Giveaway

This Review/Giveaway is done by Kathy's Freebies & Savings.
Have you ever gotten roses and they die within a few days or a week? This happens to me all the time. We all know that roses can't last forever. Wouldn't it be nice if they could last for a few months or more? Have you ever heard about wax roses before? Jewelry Candles has added a new item to their line and they are called Wax Roses.
I was provided with a dozen yellow wax roses to review from Jewelry Candles. As some of you may know, I'm a rep for Jewelry Candles as well, so I'm always up for reviewing any of their amazing products! All of the candles come with a piece of jewelry as well as for the wax roses too.
I received the dozen wax roses and before opening up the package I could already smell them. They smell just like real roses. Very amazing! I couldn't believe that wax roses could smell so good. The box they came in was really big and it was very pretty. It was a long black box and the roses were wrapped up with some tissue paper along with them having a plastic bag around them like the real roses have. Each dozen wax roses come with a piece of jewelry, just like their candles would. The jewelry is in a little bag attached to one of the roses.
One great thing I love about these roses is that they last longer than real roses would. They can last all the way up to six months. That's a long time! For the same price of a dozen real roses I know I would rather have ones that last longer for the same price. Don't forget about the piece of jewelry. That's another big plus. They last longer than real roses and come with a piece of jewelry. What more could you ask for?
I received this beautiful bracelet with my wax roses. I really love it, it's so pretty! Unfortunately the bracelet broke a few days ago. I contacted Jewelry Candles about it and they said they would send out a new piece of jewelry. After a few days, the new piece of jewelry arrived. This time it was a beautiful ring. There were no markings on the ring but that doesn't matter to me. It's such a beautiful ring I'll wear it all the time.
If you haven't check out Jewelry Candles yet, make sure to check them out. They have a lot of amazing products to choose from. Every one of their products come with a piece of jewelry.
Disclosure: I received this product in exchange for a review. The opinions are all my own and may differ from yours. Themeparkmama is not responsible for prize shipment.

The Knot Genie Review and Giveaway!

Both of my boys have always had long hair, until recently when I got Xander a shorter hair cut.
Both of them have ALWAYS complained when I brush their hair.

Ok, I admit, Xander's hair was WAY too long here.

No matter what I do, what kind of brush, daytime or night time, winter and summer. They complain, and run and hide.

With Xander that was one of our main reasons for cutting his hair shorter.

When I received the  Knot Genie Detangling Brush  I have to say I was skeptical.
How could this "bug" shaped brush really make brushing hair easier?

I tried it on myself first.
Though I still felt some pulling, the wideness of the brush made it take about half the time to brush all of my hair.

What I also noticed was that after I brushed my hair, it felt REALLY smooth and soft.

Now, it was time for Riley.

Riley cries when I brush his hair, every time.
When I told him about the Knot Genie
he wanted to try it himself first, so I let him.

Before Brushing
After Brushing

As you can see, it is very well brushed, and all without crying.

I highly recommend Knot Genie to anyone who has long hair.

Gatorland, FL

$10 for the picture! Not bad!

I have lived in Kissimmee for 7 years and have never been to Gatorland. Why? I have 2 boys...they like why didn't I take them?

Honestly, the place looks small and from the street I see big wooden bridges that don't look very safe, so the thought of taking the kids there was a little scary.

BUT,  my husband and I decided to finally take our 2 boys to Gatorland.

Husband and Kids at the entrace

Kids in the Splash Pad

HUGE playground behind Splash Pad!

More splash pad!

High food prices and food not very good

Feeding Emu's!

More Emus!

Refillable cups! $1 per refill!
My thoughts were, the park is actually MUCH bigger than it looks, we spent about 6 hours there and still only saw/did about half of the things we could have seen and done AND the bridges were not required or needed once in the park, they were actually mostly used for the new "zip line" that we didn't go on.

We got to feed goats and emus, see a gator wrestling show, feed the birds, ride a train, see a show about unusual animals and more!

Xander and Riley were very entertained, they also loved the new addition of the water park.

The Pros:
Waterpark (I would pay the annual pass rate just for this!)
Train Ride
Feed the Birds
Pictures with Alligators for $10

The Cons:
Food is very overpriced and tastes terrible

My suggestion when visiting is to eat before, or to bring your own food, other than that get ready for a great day at Gatorland!

Admission prices are  $24.99 for an adult and $16.99 ages 3-12 (under 3 is free!)

Annual pass prices are $45.99 for an adult and $31.99 for a child age 3-12

Stroller and wheelchair rentals are available starting at $7 a day.

Gatorland is open from 10am to 5pm daily and is located about 10 minutes away from Walt Disney World.

Gatorland is offering a Florida Resident Special for the month of September, admission with proof of residency is just $9.99!

Feeding Goats!

Feeding Birds!

Running from birds!

Kennedy Space Center, Floirda

On October 4th Rocket Delta will head up into space! I had the chance to visit the complex this year, its under construction for the new Atlantis Project which they will have Atlantis inside a building and you will be able to touch it and be on the space shuttle! Opens this July.

Kennedy Space Center is a great place to take your kids for education, I would recommend for kids 10 and up because its a lot of reading, also most of the center is bus trips everywhere. We got the package that included a once in a lifetime up close on site of the launch pads! This was pretty cool although you don't get to get right up there your only less then half a mile away from where they take off at. The tour was about an hour on a bus.

My kids favorite thing of the day was the playground. Lol they wanted to spend all day there! Its a really nice set up which has picnic tables around it for parents to sit and relax, the play area is big enough for parents to run around if you want to. They even have a separate play area for younger kids like 4 and under.

Kennedy Space Center is right on Cocoa Beach, Fl. So if your coming to florida for our beaches check out the complex tickets start at:
Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex Admission
$50 adult/$40 child (ages 3-11) plus tax
  • Explore Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex
  • See IMAX® space films
  • Experience all of our exhibits and shows
  • Take the Kennedy Space Center Bus Tour
  • Second day free for use at the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame® if used within seven days to allow guests to get the full experience.

All vehicle traffic is routed to a parking toll plaza equipped with parking toll booths. Rates are as follows: $10.00 per automobile, $10.00 per motorcycle, $15.00 per motor home/RV. Annual pass holders receive complimentary parking with proof of an annual pass.

SeaWorld's Just For Kids Event!

My younger kids love Disney Jr which has the show Imagination Movers which has 4 guys who sing and solve problems. So how awesome that Sea World is having a Just for Kids event which Imagination Movers is starting off the month of the Just for Kids shows!

Seaworld in Orlando Florida invited us to come and enjoy a day at Seaworld along with getting front row seats to their 4pm showing of Imagination Movers. My younger kids Joshua and Elizabeth were super happy and started to dance along with the show they had a blast watching one of their favorite shows LIVE!

While at the show the Imagination Movers threw out big foam hands and Xander caught one! Smitty also gave Xander a guitar pick! How cool, along with the show they had a pre show of Chinese Performers which first set was a all girl team with hula hoops second was all boys with hats!

Along with Imagination Movers they will have the following shows coming during the month of January and Feb the 1st week.

Laurie Berkner who most kids will recognize from Nickelodeon, and Nick Jr she sings and plays guitar. She comes to SeaWorld January 19th

Choo Choo Soul with Genevieve a short that plays on Disney Channel and there newest channel Disney Jr. They come January 26th

The Kratt Brothers Live February 2nd!

On top of the show, Seaworld offers, lots of other awesomely fun activities for kids, they have a whole huge section called Happy Harbor. Happy Harbor has 6 rides that all ages can go on along with a mini Shamu roller coaster! I had season passes up to a few years ago and it was my first 2 sons first coaster this round Joshua was big enough. Here is his journey : )

Also now home to Franklin the Turtle from Nick Jr he will be at Seaworld along with Shamu for pics!

So if your planning to come to Orlando FL come check out the great weekend shows at SeaWorld that is all JUST FOR KIDS!
