Back to School with Healthy Ideas from Great Expressions Dental Centers!

Did you know that you can clean your teeth with foods you eat?!?! You might have heard about how carrots make for better eyesight or a apple a day will keep the doctor away but what about keeping the dentist at bay. Check out these great Back to School tricks your kids and yourself can use to make life easier, cheaper and healthier.

1.       Fruit Floss
·         Ingredients:
1.       1 Banana
2.       3 Strawberries
3.       ½ large Kiwi
4.       ¼ Melon
·         Steps:
1.       Prepare fruit by slicing bananas and kiwi, cutting off strawberry tops and cutting melon
2.       Skewer fruit onto popsicle sticks
3.       Enjoy!

2.       Banana Molars
·         Ingredients:
1.       1 tbs Nutella
2.       1 Banana
3.       Whole wheat Wrap
·         Steps:
1.       Lay your wrap flat and slater with Nutella
2.       Place the banana on top of your chocolate coating
3.       Roll the wrap as you would a burrito
4.       Cut into 1 inch sections

This had to be my kids favorite! We love Nutella and of course bananas, which fast fact the ones with the brown spots taste sweeter and are better for you! Who knew! The idea of placing the two together sadly never crossed our minds, until we saw this recipe which made for some happy kids :)

3.       Smile Salad
·         Ingredients:
1.       2 cups baby fresh spinach
2.       ½ small Granny Smith apple, chopped
3.       ½ cup golden raisins
4.       2 tbs balsamic vinaigrette
·         Steps:
1.       Wash spinach and place in bowl
2.       Chop apple
3.       Mix raisins, apple and spinach
4.       Toss with balsamic vinaigrette, or serve salad with dressing on the side

Pair any of these recipes with a vegetable of your choice – veggies are a great way to balance out any meal and keep your teeth clean by removing plaque! Remind your children to brush daily, and even better after each meal. What is a $1-5 toothbrush to pain and possible long term defects. Remember to keep smiling by making 6 month check ups with Great Expressions Dental Centers. To find your local Great Expressions Dental Center click here
